This summer, Red Canyon Software has the pleasure of hosting two outstanding University of Colorado STARLIT Scholars through a program that fosters workforce development and prepares students from all backgrounds for successful careers in space.
Under the guidance of our subject matter experts, these interns are conducting research and evaluation on AI software development tools for spacecraft flight software as well as developing AI algorithms to help spacecraft conduct edge processing, self-healing and self-guidance, navigation and control.
✨ David Leighton
Rising junior majoring in Aerospace Engineering, with a minor in Astrophysics & Planetary Sciences, David is working on integrating artificial intelligence within the spaceflight software environment, ranging from developer-facing tools to direct incorporation into flight software.
“It’s been fascinating working with cutting-edge tools in an aerospace context, and a privilege to gain insights from Red Canyon’s experienced engineers supporting live missions. After graduation, I hope to work in mission operations, applying my skills to the exciting challenges of real-time oversight.”
✨ Luke Bassett
Rising junior in Aerospace Engineering, with a Computer Science minor – Luke is researching the most effective and secure AI tools to support our engineers in flight software development.
“This internship let me experience the research side of engineering, which was new for me. I look forward to applying what I’ve learned to a future deep space exploration mission!”
We’re incredibly proud of the work David and Luke have accomplished this summer. Keep reaching for the stars—this is only the beginning of the impact you’ll have on the future of aerospace. 🌌
