Earlier today, NASA announced their 13 choices of where they want the next astronauts to touchdown on the moon for the first time since 1972. Located near the lunar South Pole, NASA is searching for a landing spot based on level terrain, clear communications, good lighting conditions, and the ability to reach the scientific goals of the mission. NASA is now reaching out to the greater scientific community to determine the pros and cons of each region before making a final decision.
The 13 chosen regions are:
- Faustini Rim A
- Peak Near Shackleton
- Connecting Ridge
- Connecting Ridge Extension
- de Gerlache Rim 1
- de Gerlache Rim 2
- de Gerlache-Kocher Massif
- Haworth
- Malapert Massif
- Leibnitz Beta Plateau
- Nobile Rim 1
- Nobile Rim 2
- Amundsen Rim
