April 25, 1990 marked the beginning of operation for the Hubble space telescope after it was deployed from the Space Shuttle Discovery. On January 1, 2022 the Hubble space telescope surpassed 1 billion seconds of operation! Hubble was only designed to last 15 years, but as it approaches its 32nd birthday, Hubble will continue to add to its list of more than 1.5 million scientific observations. From capturing breathtaking images of the cosmos to charting the presence of dark matter, Hubble will work alongside the James Webb Space Telescope and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope to deepen our understanding of the universe.
