OSIRIS-REx First Touchdown on Asteroid Bennu

It’s official: on October 20, 2020, OSIRIS-REx is finally going to touchdown on asteroid Bennu, a rugged relic that has been around for over 4.5 billion years! This is NASA’s first mission to return an asteroid sample back to Earth. The objective of this Touch-and-Go (TAG) event is to quickly make contact with Bennu’s sample site, Nightingale, and make the collection in about five seconds by firing “a charge of pressurized nitrogen to disturb the surface.”
