To Bennu and Back: OSIRIS-REx First Touchdown on Asteroid Bennu

Back in May, we wrote about the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft preparing for its first touchdown on asteroid Bennu–and now it’s finally here! After a few rehearsals, OSIRIS-REx is ready for the real deal, and on October 20th the spacecraft will attempt to collect its first sample from the historic asteroid. If all goes as planned, the spacecraft will return the sample to Earth in late 2023. Shoutout to our engineers who worked on this mission – they rock!

Don’t forget to have your popcorn ready for the livestream of the big event by 5pm EDT. We’ll be rooting for the OSIRIS-REx mission right along with you!
