SpaceX-NASA Crew-1 Board the ISS

This week, we are celebrating astronauts Michael Hopkins, Shannon Walker, and Victor Glover (NASA), and Soichi Noguchi (JAXA) for their safe and successful arrival at the International Space Station! The Crew-1 mission crew boarded the ISS early November 17th after 30 hours of traveling on the “Resilience” capsule, which launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday evening. They happily joined NASA astronaut Kate Rubins and cosmonauts Sergey Rhyzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, growing the ISS trio into a stellar party of seven. Crew-1 astronauts will spend six months on the station to conduct experiments, maintenance repairs, and space walks before returning back to Earth.

This docking is a major milestone for SpaceX and NASA’s collaborative efforts to return human spaceflight capabilities to the U.S. and keep the space station fully staffed. Another historic milestone is also in celebration: not only is this Glover’s first trip to space, but he is also the first Black American to become a full-time crew member on the ISS!

“I am extremely proud that we are back to launching American Astronauts on an American rocket again!” says Sukhdeep Chase, a Red Canyon engineer who supported this mission. Check out the links below to watch the exciting moment where the astronauts emerge through the hatch, as well as an interview after settling in on the International Space Station.
