Description & Responsibilities:
The Senior Facilities Electrical Engineer will perform moderately-complex technical designs for electrical modifications to new buildings, structures, utilities and other systems in support of site operations relative to the facility and ground support equipment utilized at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for United Launch Alliance. Provides design and project support for the installation of equipment, building systems, and utilities. Validates customer requirements, incorporating innovations and options to reach project objectives within schedule and budget. Provides engineering support for short and long term infrastructure planning and capital improvement construction projects and maintenance operations. Plans, manages and executes projects, which may involve external vendors, in accordance with construction documents as well as applicable regulations, standards, codes and ordinances. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of documentation used to direct subcontractors. Capable of working maintenance procedures used to perform in-house maintenance work.
Possess competent knowledge of electrical engineering theories, formula selection, and methods. Experience in design and maintenance of facilities electrical infrastructure and systems including medium voltage (13.2 kV) substations and campus style distribution, low voltage secondary unit substations (480V and 208V), 125 VDC switchgear batteries, low voltage distribution, explosion-proof installations (NEC article 500) , lighting, electrical controls, grounding, lightning protection, generators, Uninterruptible Power Systems, fire detection systems, and O2/Gas monitoring systems. Maintenance experience preferred including development of preventative / corrective maintenance procedures for electrical system maintenance, troubleshooting and performing corrective Maintenance. Experience with protective relay schemes and with calculating short circuit currents and coordinating circuit breaker trip settings on low and medium voltage breakers desired. Experience developing design criteria, statements of work, bill of material, specifications and drawings for facility electrical systems. Experience verifying that electrical systems work being performed at job sites complies with approved designs, specifications, contracts and codes. Experience estimating and verifying cost of electrical system Construction/ maintenance. Complete knowledge of electrical safety practices (e.g., lockout-tag out, personal protective equipment, grounding). Candidate shall be expected to have adequate experience with Autodesk AutoCAD for creation of engineering drawings. Professional Engineers License engineer desired but not mandatory.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or equivalent experience, with 10 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree.
