Space Fact of the Week
Calling all Mars geeks! Have you ever wondered what the surface of Mars is like? Now, you can help scientists explore the red planet with an interactive project called Planet Four. This project allows you to identify what are called 'fans' and 'blotches' in images taken by cameras on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), which are believed to reveal wind direction and speed. By distinguishing and studying these features over the course of several "Martian" years, we are better able to understand their life cycle including how they form, disappear, and evolve over time.
Red Canyon supported the flight software development, ATLO (assembly, test, and launch operations), and real-time operations of MRO! We're proud of this program and the new public accessibility of its data.
Scientists are hopeful that by opening up this project to the public, more questions can be answered about the climate patterns of Mars! Click here to start exploring.
